How often should my pet have a wellness exam?

We highly recommend bringing in your furry friend for a veterinary exam annually (and twice a year if they are senior pets). Pets age faster than humans, so a lot can change in just a year. Routine checkups allow us to catch diseases sooner rather than later. It can be hard to notice changes, and some diseases come with no warning signs. That’s where we come in. Our highly-trained veterinarians can diagnose and treat any underlying conditions or pain your pet may be experiencing before they become chronic or fatal. Together, we can create a preventative treatment plan that puts their health and lifestyle needs first.

What happens during a veterinary exam?

From paw to tail, our veterinarians start by conducting a physical evaluation to look for any signs of disease or the source of your pet’s discomfort. While this is happening, we will ask you about their behaviour, diet, and exercise routine to better understand your pet’s condition. From there, we may recommend preventative treatments or may run additional tests for further analysis. Some of the things we will examine during the physical exam are:

  • Their weight and temperature
  • Their alertness and how they walk/stand
  • Their skin and fur (for redness, bumps or loss of hair)
  • Their eyes and vision (for discharge or blurriness)
  • Their teeth (for broken or rotting teeth)
