When should I vaccinate my kitten/cat?

Ideally, kittens should receive their first round of vaccines from 6 to 8-weeks-old. It’s important not to let your feline friend play outside before their first shots. Until they are 4-months-old, they will continue to receive a series of vaccines. Then, they typically get boosters every 1 to 3 years as adult cats. This all depends on your pet’s health needs, environment and risks, which our veterinarians will consider when creating their unique preventative vaccination plan.

What diseases do vaccines protect my cat from?

As a form of preventative medication, vaccines help protect your cat from catching and spreading dangerous and fatal diseases. Some of the diseases that vaccines protect your cat against include:

  • Rabies
  • Feline distemper
  • Feline leukemia and calicivirus
  • Feline viral rhinotracheitis

Are vaccines safe for my cat?

Vaccines are generally safe for all cats and are vital to protect them against fatal diseases. The risks are few and far between when it comes to vaccinating your feline friend. They may experience a temporary loss of appetite, itchiness or swelling. Very few have allergic reactions, but please contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice any signs of difficulty in breathing, vomiting, or diarrhea
